What we have been learning about this week…
On Monday we began the week with Money Day! Children learned about the terms income and expenses. Children played a game in groups of 5 to understand the importance of sticking to a budget! Children learned about how much different holidays cost and about saving for a holiday.
This week children have created their own 3D island incorporating 2 physical and 2 human features. We have continued to read stories about Katie Morag who is a little girl who lives on an imaginary island called The Isle of Struay. Children have created a poster or leaflet advertising activities on The Isle of Struay. Children have also imagined they visited the island on holiday and they worked with a partner to write a diary extract saying all the things they got up to!
Children have created seaweed inspired pictures using cellulose paste and poster paint. Children have also designed and created their own boat. They could choose any type of boat they wanted and they do look fantastic – they all had super ideas!
Literacy – Children have continued with learning about recounts. Children have been reading newspaper articles and they have been identifying the key features of a newspaper article. Children understand the importance of a headline and they have been creating their own headlines for different stories! Children have also written their own very imaginative treasure island stories in Big Writing.
Spellings
· Children have been given spellings to learn. Children have been investigating what happens to the spelling of nouns ending in ‘f’ and ‘y’ when they become plural. Children have also been learning to spell irregular plurals. Children need to write a sentence for each spelling and to learn the spellings. Children will be tested on these rules on the Tuesday we come back after half term.
Suggested Homework
· Children have been provided with suggested homework activities and these have been stuck in their homework books.
Big Writing Big Talk
Big Writing will be on Monday afternoon. I would like you to think about writing a poem inspired by our topic
· What the topic of your poem is going to be?
· What type of poem you are going to write?
· Any words and phrases that you may like to include in your poem.
