Meet the Staff

Mr Jamie Llewellyn

Headteacher

I am very proud to be Headteacher of Riccall Primary School.  I have a real passion for learning, and so I can’t wait to learn more as I walk around school and experience the amazing curriculum that pupils have at Riccall.  Outside of school, I enjoy sport, particularly Cricket, Football and American Football.  I have two children of primary school age and we spend our spare time as a family visiting new places and we are still discovering great places in the UK.  I look forward to meeting everyone in the school community.

Nicola Wilson
Mrs Nicola Wilson

Deputy Headteacher, Maths, Curriculum lead and Deputy Child Protection officer

Hello! I am the Deputy Head at school and I love teaching at Riccall. Our children are creative and exciting and make coming to school each day a real adventure. I am currently the Year 1 teacher. I am the new art leader for the school, which means I look at how we are meeting the needs of all our learners in this subject and make sure that those who need it get support at the right times. Our children know that their contributions are valued and help shape what we offer them. I work in partnership with parents, so they are involved in what is going on and are part of how we support our children. Art is all about creativity and not being afraid to experiment. This will then lead to the same attitude in other subject areas. I am keen that we look at contemporary artists as well as appreciating the artwork of the masters. We will use lots of different materials to not just draw but to collage and create 3-d pieces. Art is a celebration of life. This links to my PSHE role and I love nothing better than doing makaton with our children in our weekly assembly. We are building up a whole host of signs. I am also responsible for our exciting new curriculum; we have spent time looking at how to link subjects in exciting themes to motivate and engage our pupils. We like nothing better than to launch new themes with exciting adventures like school trips and visits from experts. The work then builds up to a ‘land’ event, where we share and celebrate all we have learnt. Each theme has its own knowledge organiser; this shows the children and parents what we are going to cover each half term. EVERY class gets these at the start of each new half term. Look in our curriculum pages to see examples. I live in the village and am enjoying discovering walks with our dog, Scruff. I have 2 children (Jake and Belle) and they both help out at school, when they can. They are both teenagers now and they love it when I share stories about them (or maybe they don’t!). I love to read and Terry Pratchett is my favourite author; his Discworld novels capture my imagination and make me laugh out loud. I can recommend his Tiffany Aching books, she is a young witch in training and might inspire children to be more than they ever imagined. I am a bit of a film buff and love going to the cinema (maybe for the huge bag of pick and mix!). I look forward to meeting you!

Kelly Sweeting
Mrs Kelly Zacharenko

Year 1 Teacher

Hello! My name is Mrs Zacharenko, and I teach Year 2 here at Riccall. I am passionate that the children learn through exciting activities that are linked to their current interests or class themes. I like to encourage the children to get ‘stuck in’ with lots of hands- on learning, explore the provision areas, and apply their learning independently too! I am also very lucky to be the SENCO here at Riccall, so I'm always able to visit other classrooms to see what the children are learning about. In my spare time I enjoy playing hockey- I play for an all-ladies team called Hornsea. I also have a baby boy called Teddy, and a mischievous dog called Dexter. We really love to go on family walks together and enjoy fresh air!

Stephen Flatman
Mr Stephen Flatman

Teacher

I currently teach in Year 5, and lead writing and music across school. I love reading stories, particularly by Roald Dahl, because of his gruesome villains! It's always great to see how our children reflect the descriptions of their own favourite authors in their writing, and I have the privilege of reading many children's stories, letters and other genres of writing from across school. I also really enjoy teaching music and I am fortunate to teach music across Key Stage 2: ukulele in Years 3 and 4, and violin, 'cello and guitar in Years 5 and 6. My favourite times of the year involve taking children to Young Voices and leading school concerts at Christmas and at the end of the school year. Outside of school, I play in a ceilidh band and find lots of other opportunities to play my violin or guitar too, such as in my church. I also enjoy cycling and escape rooms, and at home, I look after a hamster named Dr Dylan Fluffington, the Mayor of Hamsterdam!
