High School
The majority of children from Riccall C.P. School go on to Barlby High School. Barlby has Sports College status and this has had a huge impact on our P.E. and school sports provision. This was reflected in an Ofsted Subject Inspection for P.E. in February 2006; we were praised for the quality of the teaching and learning in this area. Occasionally children from Riccall go on to Selby High School. Selby has Arts College status.
Whichever school they move to we ensure there is a smooth transition. There are ‘induction’ days giving our children the opportunity to get to know some of the key High School staff and the geography of the site. The head of year visits the primary school to talk to both children and the class teachers and the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator also visits so that vulnerable children can be supported appropriately straight away.
We have developed extra links with Barlby to improve the transition process still further. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to build up a good relationship with a member of staff from the High School.
